EO/AWC Team Selection Committee
2017 Selection Committee
Chair of Selection Committee - Christopher Spencer
Team Leader - Linda Barton
Technical Advisor - Teri O'Neill
The Selection Committee works together leading up to, during and immediately following Tryouts to accomplish the following:
- Double check scores that come in from the trial secretary;
- Observe the performance of competitors/dog teams to assess skills/strengths of teams, and to note areas needing technical development to prepare the teams for EO/AWC;
- Take into consideration extenuating circumstances, if any;
- For EO, list the top 16 Large dogs, and choose the most competitive combination of Small and Medium dogs for the complement of 16, a total of 32 dogs on EO Team Canada roster;
- For AWC, list the top four dogs in each of Small, Medium and Large to run the Team event, and choose nine dogs from any of the top eight from each of Small, Medium and Large height classes (a pool of 24 dogs) to run the Individual event.
- List the possible EO Reserve dogs, as the 17th and 18th large dogs, and 17th and 18th small/medium dogs.
- List the possible AWC Alternates, from dogs ranked 5th to 8th.
At the end of Tryouts, on Sunday night, the EO and AWC recommended rosters will be released to the Team Leader, who will then contact these individuals over the next several days to confirm their position on the teams. If the team roster is still not filled after calling upon the reserve dogs, then the dog/handler teams lower than 18th will be invited in descending order of their Points for Rank until the roster is complete.
When all team members confirms their position on the team, the Team Leader announces the EO Team first, then the AWC Team. Typically, this process can take up to two weeks.
